Rumor: First pictures of next-gen iPhone display assembly surface
Fresh photos claiming to be of a complete next-generation iPhone display assembly hit the web on Saturday, offering a glimpse at the 4-inch screen Apple is rumored to be employing in the new handset.
A new fiing with the city of Prineville, Ore., reveals Apple is planning to build a large, two-building data center on the 160 acres of land it purchased in February, comparable in size to the main building at the company’s Maiden, N.C., facilty.
Reports that recent hires at Apple Stores were being laid off, followed by claims they weren’t, are now being explained as a reversal of a policy enacted by Apple’s new retail vice president John Browett in an attempt to cut costs and raise profits within the retail segment.
Establishing US assembly lines would be ‘highly difficult’ for Apple
Though Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said this week he’d like his company’s products to be made in the U.S., a new report suggests the roadblocks might be too great for Apple to overcome, at least in the short term.
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute on Friday selected Apple’s contested “nano-SIM” design as the official fourth form factor for the SIM card standard.
New software features in iOS, as well as OS X, are likely to be the main highlights at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, though Apple is also expected to refresh a significant portion of its Mac hardware lineup.
Catch a glimpse of an iPhone assembly line
Chinese news site ifeng has managed to boldly go where few, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, have gone before — inside of the Zhengzhou Foxconn facility to get a peek at how iPhones are made. There’s nothing new that we haven’t seen on ABC’s Nightline regarding the factory, as The Verge points out, but the video does provide a good sense of how big one of these factories are and offers a glimpse into how iPhones are produced. Check out the full video below, but no English subtitles are provided.

Samsung, LG Display and Sharp have begun shipping high-resolution displays for Apple’s next generation iPad as Foxconn prepares to begin assembly in January 2012, a new report claims.

Look who’s back. The LCD plus digitizer combo that we first laid eyes on last month seems to have leaked out again, still claiming it’ll be part of Apple’s upcoming (unannounced, but popular knowledge anyway) iPod touch 4th generation refresh. It continues to insist it’ll have a front-facing camera, pointing to the rounded hole in its forehead as evidence, and we’re now inclined to trust it that little bit more given the leaking site’s prior record. A visual inspection reveals it to have the same fused design as on the iPhone 4, which naturally invites speculation that the retina display will be pulling some PMP duty as well. Skip past the break to see the new screen side-by-side with Apple’s latest phone display and third-gen iPod touch hardware.
